Woodbury, NJ – Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill is on defense once again as Steve Sweeney calls her out for failing to protect first responders from violence, voting against a measure that would make a conviction of assault or an admission of committing assault on a police officer, firefighter, or any other first responder a deportable offense for undocumented immigrants. That same week, she voted against a bipartisan resolution that condemned efforts to abolish the police, further calling into question her support for those that keep us safe.
The facts:
Mikie Sherrill voted NO on H.R.2494 to make the physical assault of a police officer, firefighter or other first responder a deportable offense for undocumented migrants.
Mikie Sherrill voted AGAINST H. Con. Res. 40 (Roll Call 227), a bipartisan resolution to condemn “efforts to [defund or] abolish the police.”
The resolution also sought “to preserve resources that go toward local law enforcement.” Sherrill STILL voted NO.
Steve Sweeney has issued the following statement:
“Congresswoman Sherrill’s refusal to vote to protect first responders speaks volumes about where her priorities lie. By opposing measures to protect law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics, and failing to condemn efforts to abolish the police, she’s showing a disturbing disregard for the safety of our communities. New Jersey needs a leader who will stand up for those who risk their lives to protect us, and I promise that as your next Governor, I will fight to protect our communities every single day.”
